In the US, Rukus' sibling, the Scion xB, has built a cult following. Fanatics have raced to get behind the wheel of this urban utility vehicle and strut their stuff with its head-turning style that's fortified with blistering performance and advanced safety equipment.

With street smart styling, Rukus is designed with the inner-city lifestyle in mind. Its daring profile will challenge convention, Rukus looks like no other car and its unique, angular and edgy design will ensure its identity is never mistaken.

Bold exterior styling

Front on, its rectangular grille presents an assertive expression, daring you to look it square in the eye. While on the side, high windows and large, flat door panels create the distinctive proportions of its eye-catching boxy profile - setting up Rukus' bold and confident stance.

But it's not all about shape. Rukus' distinctive look is accentuated by stylish design cues including wide-set projector headlamps, high contrast tail lamps and LED indicator lights on the outside mirrors.

Alloy Wheels

Rukus stays true to its bold and edgy design with 10-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels that add a distinctly sporty touch to Rukus' confident stance.

Interior

Slip inside Rukus and you'll see the radical styling on the outside creates a world of difference on the inside. For a small car the Rukus interior is huge. And all this space is well decked out with outstanding equipment and audio gear.

Premium steering wheel

Steering on the Rukus feels solid and crisp. And you can step up the driving experience with a premium steering wheel to match the leather accented interior option.

Audio switches are set into the steering wheel of all models so you can easily change the volume and audio without taking your hands off the wheel.

Car audio - 6-speaker - Build 1

Love your music? Rukus is built for sound. No matter what your style, your favourite tracks will sound better on the 6-speaker car audio. With two tweeters up front, two front and two rear door speakers - this car audio envelops you and your passengers with riotous sound.

There's also a USB input for connectivity with your iPod®/USB memory stick, so you can simply plug in your media player and listen to your entire music collection as you drive. A 3.5mm AUX input also provides additional audio player capability.

Plus there's Bluetooth™ capability for hands-free calling or audio streaming when you're behind the wheel.

Car audio - 9-speaker - Build 2 and 3

Ramp it up with Rukus' 9-speaker 6-CD car audio. It delivers high volume output and sublime audio quality through two tweeters up front, two front and two rear door speakers, two rear squawkers and a booming sub-woofer. With this level of car audio, you'll always create a noise.

Belt out your entire music collection as you drive with 3.5mm AUX input for portable audio players and USB input for iPods®/USB memory sticks. The addition of a striking 4.3" TFT screen makes viewing your iPod® music selections a piece of cake.

As well as potent sound for your music, both car audio systems deliver the convenience of Bluetooth™ handsfree capability and Bluetooth™ streaming audio, so you can call, talk and do business when you're on the move.

Technology

Smart entry - Keyless entry

Forget about fumbling around for keys. Electronic sensors and transmitters recognise you and prepare your car for automatic unlocking. So all you need to do is grab the door handle and Smart Entry unlocks the door for you.

Smart Start - Push-button start

Once you're inside, you can still forget about your keys. With the advanced Smart Start feature all you have to do is put your foot on the brake and push the start button to start the car. Simple.

Smart Entry and Smart Start is the type of car technology you expect to find in a luxury car. But that's not the case with Rukus. You'll find both standard on all Builds.

Single touch power windows

Need some air? Power your windows up or down with a single touch with Rukus' innovative one-touch power windows. You can also automatically lock the passenger windows, which is useful when you're carrying kids (or rowdy mates) in the back.

Car dashboard - Multi-information display

A sleek, centrally-mounted dashboard dominates Rukus' interior. The dashboard includes a multi-information display that shows the time and outside temperature and lets you toggle through handy stuff like your driving time, potential cruising range, average fuel consumption, average vehicle speed, and current fuel consumption. Car technology with the cred that typifies Rukus.

LCD speedometer

Even the instrument gauges on Rukus fuse function with style. The LCD speedometer is constantly illuminated to provide a high level of visibility day and night.

Auto air conditioning - Build 2 and 3

Auto air conditioning allows you to set and forget. Set the temperature, airflow level and air vent mode on the LCD and the system will automatically control the climate inside your car. The air conditioning system makes automatic adjustments to fan speed and temperature to ensure your car's climate remains how you like it.

Safety

Stand out, stay safe

Rukus is uncompromising when it comes to safety. It's loaded with world-class safety features to keep you and your passengers safe. Rukus safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) incorporating Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) and a suite of driver and passenger airbags to cushion you in the event of an accident.

World-class brake system

Rukus has plenty of force to pull you up in a hurry with Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) incorporating Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Anti skid braking system (ABS)

The anti-skid braking system on the Rukus automatically controls the brakes and helps prevent your wheels from locking up when you hit the brakes hard during an emergency stop. This helps you maintain control of the steering, helping you to avoid an accident.

ABS constantly monitors the wheels, and if it detects that the wheels are beginning to lock, it adjusts the braking pressure to free the lock-up. This improves steering control during emergency braking and helps the brakes achieve optimum braking performance.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)

This sophisticated brake system minimises stopping distances by shifting braking pressure to the wheels with the most grip. It senses the weight transfer of the vehicle when the brakes are applied, and automatically adjusts pressure distribution to each of the brakes accordingly.

So if you're carrying a heavy load in the back and need to stop quickly, the brake system senses the extra weight in the rear of the car and applies more braking to the rear wheels. Conversely, if more of the weight is in the front of the car, more braking force is applied to the front wheels

EBD also controls the brake forces between the left and right wheels when brakes are applied while cornering to improve braking performance.

Brake Assist (BA)

Too many accidents happen because drivers can't stop their cars fast enough or wheel lock-up causes the vehicle to skid out of control. With Brake Assist, it's easier to stop your Rukus in a hurry. Brake Assist interprets a sudden, quick push of the brake pedal as emergency braking and increases the brake pressure to reduce the braking distance.

Steering Control

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) helps you stay in command of your Rukus in cornering situations. The VSC system utilises electronic sensors to help control any potential understeer or oversteer situations. Understeer is when the vehicle loses front-wheel traction and wants to push forward nose first. Oversteer is when the rear wheels lose traction and the tail begins to slide.

Six Airbags

Unfortunately accidents do happen, so inside every Rukus there are six SRS airbags to help protect everyone. In the event of a frontal collision there's driver and front passenger airbags, there's also front seat side mounted airbags and full-length curtain shield airbags to help protect in side collisions.

Front and rear disc brakes

Front and rear disc brakes that are smooth and responsive help make Rukus a great drive around town. The front and rear rotors are both big for a small car and provide smooth braking and additional stopping power.
